3. Indications for Use.

Arterial hypertension (including that of symptomatic), chronic heart failure. Benign hyperplasia of prostate gland.

4. Action

The use of Cardura in patients who suffer from arterial hypertension results in a clinically significant reduction of arterial hypertension.

5. Posology and Administration

In arterial hypertension the drug dose varies from 1 to 16 mg/daily. The treatment is recommended to start from 1 mg once/daily during 1 or 2 weeks. During the following 1 or 2 weeks a dose may be increased up to 2 mg once/daily. In order to reach a desired reduction of arterial tension, if needed, a daily dose should be increased gradually, keeping regular intervals (to 4 mg, 8 mg and 16 mg), in relation to the evidenced patient’s reaction. An average dose is 2-4 mg once/daily.
In benign hyperplasia of prostate gland the starting dose is 1 mg once/daily. In relation to individual differences a dose may be increased up to 2 mg and then it may be increased up to 4 mg and up to the maximal recommended dose of 8 mg. A recommended interval after which a dose may be increased is 1-2 weeks. An average recommended dose is 2-4 mg once/daily.

Cardura should be used with caution in pregnancy, in lactation period, liver failure, narrowing of sinistral atrioventricular opening and narrowing of aorta, excessive reduction of arterial tension in vertical position of the body, childhood (there are no data on efficiency and safety).

8. Interface with Other Medications

The drug should not be used together with other medications without a doctor’s order.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms: substantial drop of arterial tension is possible.

10. Side Effects

Faintness fits, dizziness (including response to repositioning of the body), headache, fatigability, tiredness, edemas, asthenia, drowsiness, nausea, tachycardia, heartbeat, pain in the breast, stenocardia, myocardial infarction, stroke, arrhythmia, pains in the stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, excitement, tremor not-willed movements, incontinence of urine, long-term uncontrolled erection or impotency. Also there have been reported cases of skin rash, nose bleeding, hepatitis, yellow illness, compromised liver function and misting of vision.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of the drug in pregnancy is possible only in the case when a supposed favor for the mother exceeds a potential risk for the fetus or baby, also it concerns breast-feeding.

12. Driving

When Cardura therapy is administered it should be taken into consideration that the ability to drive vehicles and operate mechanisms may be worse especially in the beginning of the treatment.
